Art Therapy

You may be wondering what Art Therapy is and whether it’s the right modality for your child? Art therapy combines the creative process and psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using colour, imagery and shape as part of this therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate. Art therapy works well with any population, particularly with children.Children can use art therapy as a way  to visually express and record experiences, perceptions, feelings and imagination. Arts-based approaches can help children to communicate through creative expression what may otherwise be difficult to express verbally.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a form of therapy used primarily for younger children. While it may look like an ordinary playtime, play therapy can be much more than that and can help children who may not be able to find the words to express their feelings, articulate them through play.

A trained therapist can use playtime to observe and gain insights into a child’s problems. The therapist can then help the child explore emotions and deal with unresolved trauma. Through play, children can learn new coping mechanisms and how to redirect inappropriate behaviors.
