Mermaid Birthday Party!

This past weekend we hosted a mermaid themed birthday party for a little girl and thought we would share some of our ideas with you, in case you want to host your very own mermaid party! If you’re looking for more information on our birthday parties please visit our Birthday Page! We did a craft and some baking. The baking part was really easy, first the kids made cupcakes. They coloured icing blue and then made mermaid tails out of fondant (they also coloured the fondant either purple or green for their tails). The craft was easy but had just a few more steps, see below for detailed instructions. The craft materials were all purchased from the good ol’ dollar store, except the acetate for the window (which was purchased from a craft store). Materials: 2 blue paper plates Markers Star sequins yarn Under the Sea Foam Shapes Wooden Clothespin Sand Fake green plant Aluminum Foil Clear Acetate (or cellophane) Hot Glue Directions: Cut out a hole in one plate and then paint the outside …

DIY Easter Craft!

We hosted a bunny hop this past Sunday and it was so much fun! The kids loved the Easter Egg Hunt the best, surprise, surprise! The craft and cookie decorating were definitely enjoyed too. The kids made these adorable little dioramas. For time purposes we painted the boxes blue beforehand and then the kids got to decorate it however they wanted. This is a great little craft to do with various ages and a perfect little hostessing gift if you’re going somewhere for Easter dinner this weekend. Almost all of the materials were purchased from the dollar store. All you need is: Brown Box Blue paint Glue Cotton Balls Small little yellow ducks/sparkly eggs Pipe Cleaners Easter Grass

DIY birthday (for big, grown-up people)

For starters, I apologize for the delay in posting. I got a little lost over the holidays and have only recently found my way back to the keyborad. I find December to be all consuming and it takes a bit of time to recover, but I’m ready to completely return to routine. I was even able to host a private dinner party recently. Putting that little extra effort into creating a special birthday for a friend is well worth it. If you would like to host a private event at our venue in the Annex, with access to our commercial kitchen please feel free to visit our Birthday page.  If you’re feeling crafty for your next party, try making a couple of these tassels to hang. Lots of websites list different ways you can create the tassel look. I was really drawn to the shiny tassel, after all which girl doesn’t like a little sparkle. Check out this DIY tassels for instructions. For mine, I used three different types of paper, wouldn’t recommend using the kraft …

Wine and Crafts!

Is there really a better combo than wine and crafts? It may be one of my favorite pastimes and it appears I’m not the only one. Last week we hosted a wine and craft night – which featured learning how to make your own wreath. Below are some pics from the workshop, if you want step by step instructions on how to make your own wreath, please check out one of our earlier posts on DIY holiday crafts.

My little Superhero

It’s hard for me to believe that my wee, little guy isn’t so little anymore. I mean in the grand scheme of things he’s still little, after all we’re not counting his grey hairs at 3 years old! However, he still seems so big compared to just a few short years ago. As they say, “the days are long, the years are short”. This year we had a superhero themed birthday party for him, it was tons of fun! The best part is that he wanted to be Wonder Woman – at least for 20 minutes before deciding he would share his costume with his big cousin (it was hers to begin with). Here are some pics from our party:

How to Host the Perfect Fairy Party!

Is your little one obsessed with fairies? We recently hosted a birthday party for a little girl who picked fairies as her theme. We had so much fun creating her birthday and think it would be an easy party for anyone to recreate in your home. For the decorations we bought strands of fake flowers from the dollar store. We also printed out a little saying we came across, which matched our theme perfectly. All you need is Faith, Trust and a little Fairy Dust! Loot Bags: For the loot bags we made little jars of fairy dust. We bought mini glass jars from the dollar store and covered them in clear tape just to be extra cautious. We filled each jar with water a few drops of glycerin and lots of sparkles. We then hot glued the cork back into the jar to prevent spilling. We tied a purple ribbon around the jar so that it could be worn as a necklace. We also made fairy cookies, the sky is the limit on how …

DIY Crayons!

Got a bunch of old crayons lying around the house? This is the perfect activity to do with your kiddies. Plus, pulling off the crayon wrappers will not only take a while but will also work on their fine motor skills. In addition, your kids can learn about different states of matter! There are five simple steps to this activity. 1) Pull off any paper from the crayon. 2) Break the crayons in half and place in a muffin tin. 3) Bake in the oven on a temperature lower than 250, should take about 15 minutes to melt the crayons. 4) Pop the muffin tin with the melted crayon in the freezer. 5) 30 minutes later crayons should set, voila! Brand new crayons 🙂

Valentines Day Crafts

We’re prepping for a few events where we’ll be sharing some valentines day crafts, so thought we would share them here too! They’re not only easy but also very budget friendly! All supplies we’re purchased at the dollar store (minus the cardboard, which was rescued from our recycling bin). Valentines Day Wreath   Materials Mason Jar Lid Various Heart Decorations Twine Red Ribbon Hot Glue Directions Wrap the twine around the Mason Jar lid, very tightly and hot glue both the starting point and the end point. Use whatever heart decorations you like and tie a ribbon at the top. Although this is so perfect for Valentines Day you could definitely use it as a Holiday Ornament too!   Valentines Day Love Sign Materials Needle and red yarn Square of burlap red ribbon or rope Felt Scissors Hot Glue Directions You can get as creative as you like with your little burlap square. We kept it simple but would encourage those creativity juices to flow! We simply cut a heart out of felt and hot …

DIY Advent Calendar

Growing up in a Jewish home I was always fascinated with the commercialized side of Christmas. I slowly started to buy decorations but could never quite bring myself to buy a tree. Till I met my husband, who happens to celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah. Well in all honesty mostly just Christmas as his mother is Catholic and his father is Jewish. So, now I had real reason to buy a tree and my son will now celebrate both holidays! Which is very exciting for his Jewish mother who loooooooves Christmas! I made him his first Advent Calendar and enjoyed every minute of it. It was relatively easy and not that time consuming. Materials: Canvas Board (16×20) Hot Glue Sharpie Brown Paper Bags (small size) Construction Paper and Patterned Paper (with gingham print) Glue Stick Twine 25 Clothespins Christmas Decorations   Directions Decorate your little bags, I used the gingham paper for the numbers and cut out green hearts. Then glue one strip of twine to your canvas board (use the glue on the back …

DIY Under the Sea Birthday

This past weekend we hosted a wonderful birthday for a little girl who turned 8 years old. She requested “under the sea” as her theme and we had so much fun with it! The guests made “Under the Sea” treasure boxes and decorated cupcakes with fondant dolphins and seashells. For the decorations, we made lots of beautiful fish and used tissue paper for seaweed. The hanging Jelly Fish were made from a paper bowl and a cut up table cloth. If you want to skip all the work you can always contact us to host your Under The Sea Birthday Party – visit our Birthday page for more information!
